Has anyone ever waited for about 5+ years until seeing a dentist? What happened?

I don't see the dentist much, but I really should. I went about 7 years, went because of a toothache. It turned out to be my wisdom teeth. That was 5 years ago. I really should go for an exam even though I brush daily.
